Pizza with Homemade BBQ Sauce - Recipe

Whenever I ask family what they would like to eat for dinner, pizza is a common answer as it is easy to make. The favorite topping is chicken, sweet corn and BBQ sauce. However, I don't like to buy ready made sauce as they can sometimes taste artificial. I decided to get help from family one day and we searched for an easy recipe online to make the BBQ sauce ourselves. We found many different recipes and decided to make our own version of a few of them. Family loved the BBQ sauce and now we always use it on our pizzas.

I mentioned earlier that sometimes I use ready made pizza bases, however I do my own pizza dough as well. My favorite recipe for a quick pizza dough includes baking powder instead of yeast. This way, you don't have to wait for hours until the dough has risen.

Ingredients:

Pizza Dough:
6 dl flour
2 tsp baking powder
1,5 tsp salt
100 g butter
2 dl milk

BBQ Sauce:
1 cup ketchup
1 cup water
3 tbsp balsamic vinegar (or use apple cider vinegar)
3 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tbsp ground mustard
1 tbsp lemon juice
1.5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
salt & pepper

Topping:
Grated cheese
Grilled chicken breast, diced
Sweetcorn

Method:

1- Preheat the oven to 210C.

2- Start by mixing flour, salt and baking powder in a large bowl. Add the butter and milk and start mixing it to a dough, starting off with a wooden spoon and finishing off with your hands. Add more flour or milk if needed. Transfer the dough to a flat surface and start kneading it for few minutes and form it to a round ball.

3- Sprinkle the surface with some flour and roll out the dough to your preferred shape.  I usually make it to a square as it is easier to cut even pieces.

In the photo below I used a ready made base, but usually I use this pizza dough recipe.

4- Put the pizza base in an greased oven tin and add your BBQ sauce. Sprinkle over the topping and bake it in the oven for 20-30 minutes or until it looks baked. Serve it with a nice and tangy pizza salad and dressing.

Enjoy!
