Healthy ginger, carrot and apple shot - recipe

As summer fades away and the rainy season sets in, the threat of seasonal sniffles looms. Feeling the telltale tickle in my nose, I decided to take preventive action against the impending cold by whipping up some ginger shots. Today's mixture featured a blend of apples, carrots, sweetened with a touch of honey - a gentle introduction to the world of immune-boosting shots.

Ingredients:
1 carrot
2 apples
1 tbsp honey
Pinch of turmeric powder
1 inch piece of fresh ginger
Juice of 1 lemon
water

Method:  1. Peel the ginger, carrot and apples, then toss them into a food processor along with the rest of the ingredients. Blend until smooth, resembling a velvety puree. You may need to pause occasionally to scrape down the sides. Add water as needed to achieve your desired consistency.

2. Once everything is well blended, strain the thick juice through a fine mesh sieve. Here's the vibrant juice I obtained after straining. Chill the juice in a fridge until ready to enjoy.

3. Take a refreshing sip of your homemade ginger shot, embracing its invigorating kick. I found myself feeling refreshed and revitalized after each sip. I'll definitely be whipping up more shots for both myself and hubby in the days to come.

Homemade hot chocolate

When you thought that it is time to remove all winter clothes and shoes, the weather suprices us with 20 cm of snow during the night. Oh well, the smile on toddler's face in the morning when he looks out through the window, so worth it. But I had to treat myself to a nice hot cup of homemade chocolate. Super easy!!

Ingredients:
Roughly 1-2 dl double cream
4-5 dl milk
2 tbsp kakao powder
2 tsp sugar
Season of choose: I chose a sprinkle of vanilla powder and ground cardamom

Method:
Mix everything in a sauce pan on medium heat until well mixed and piping hot. Don't let it boil though. Gives enough chocolate for two cups in case you like to share it.

I enjoyed it with a nice cheese sandwich ;)

Enjoy!

Banana fruit smoothie for toddlers - recipe

My son has been having trouble with teething lately and is getting picky with what I give him to eat. One day he will love banana or grapes, the next day refuse to eat at all. So when I want him to have some fruits, I always go for my foolproof option, the smoothie. Basically I just choose whatever fruit I have at home and blend it with milk and/or yoghurt. He loves it and so far not refused it even once! This one is just made with what I had at hand, hence only 3 strawberries. This was enough for 3 drinks.

Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1 ripe pear
1/2 leftover apple
1/2 cup blueberries
3 strawberries
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp greek yoghurt

Method:
1. Mix up all the ingredients in a food blender and served it right away.

Banana, Kiwi & Strawberry Smoothie - Recipe

It is such a lovely morning and the sun is shining beautifully outside. Perfect weather for jogging. But before that, I need to eat something as I always get dizzy if I work out on an empty stomach. With a few old bananas laying around, I was greatly inspired by Julia, a youtuber, who usually drinks smoothies as a part of her summer fit diet. Check her videos for more work out and healthy food inspiration.

Today, I made a banana, kiwi and strawberry smoothie. I added ginger powder to it as I did not have  fresh ginger at home. Both Julia (The third shift) and Jamie (his youtube video below) used it in their smoothies and explain the benefit with ginger. I love Jamie Oliver's style when he cooks, it is so homey and easy put together without any fuss. The smoothies he makes in the video below looks so tasty.

The smoothie I made tasted really nice and creamy. I like to substitute normal yogurt with one that contains exotic fruit which you can not find easily, like passion fruit. Give this recipe a go :)

Ingredients:

1 banana
2 small kiwis
3 large strawberries
2 large tbsp Sainsbury's mango & passion fruit yogurt (you can use which ever brand you like or plain yogurt)
ginger powder
1/2 glass of cold water

Method:

Mix all the ingredients in a food blender and serve it in a large glass. Garnish with a nice big straw and a strawberry on the edge of the glass.

Jamie Oliver is a great inspiration when it comes to cooking for me, here he shares nice smoothie recipes:

Fruity Smoothie - Recipe

Sometimes I feel like having something sweet, fresh, and creamy, but I'm not talking about candies or sweets. I'm talking about smoothies :)

One of the best drinks (?) ever that you can make in so many different ways and yet always be so tasty. I was craving this smoothie while watching the food channel, and one of the chefs made it to take on a picnic. Now that the weather is getting worse here in the UK, there won't be any picnics, but it did not stop me from having a delicious, summery smoothie :)

It's so simple to make that every time I make it, I'm surprised I don't do it more often. Now I don't have exact measurements for all the ingredients that went into this smoothie, but I'll will try give an approximate recipe for this particular smoothie.

Ingredients:

1 kiwi
13-15 strawberries
2 bannas
half cup Greek yogurt
1/3 glass of summer fruit juice
honey to sweeten it
some milk to get the right consistency

Process:

1- Put all the ingredients in a liquidizer and wazz it up as Jamie Oliver would say :)

2- Taste it, and put in more of the ingredients, that you feel are required to get the right taste.

Enjoy !
